How to Cancel Any AI Subscription
AI subscription cancellation is often more complex than signup — by design. Each service has a different cancellation path, refund window, and policy on prorated returns. This guide provides the direct URLs and policy details for each major AI service as of 2026.
ChatGPT Plus / Pro (OpenAI)
Cancellation path: chatgpt.com → Profile → Settings → Subscription → Manage subscription → Cancel plan
Refund policy: No automatic prorated refunds. Access continues through the end of the current billing period. Case-by-case exceptions are granted through support at help.openai.com, particularly for charges within 5–7 days of renewal where usage has been minimal.
Important note: ChatGPT Team subscriptions have a 14-day return window for new signups that is not prominently advertised.
Claude Pro (Anthropic)
Cancellation path: claude.ai → Settings → Billing → Cancel Subscription
Refund policy: No automatic prorated refunds. Access continues through the billing period. Anthropic's support team (support@anthropic.com) has been responsive to refund requests within 30 days of charge, particularly for cases involving service issues or charges after intended cancellation.
Important note: Annual plans have been refunded prorated in documented cases of service disruption. Email support directly rather than relying on the cancellation flow alone.
Microsoft Copilot Pro / Microsoft 365 Copilot

Refund policy: Consumer subscriptions have a 30-day refund window if usage has been minimal. Business subscriptions (Microsoft 365 Copilot at $30/user/month) are annual commitments with no prorated refund after 7 days. This is the most common "unexpected commitment" issue we encounter — organizations sign annual contracts without realizing the lock-in.
Important note: If you purchased Microsoft 365 Copilot within the last 7 days and have not deployed it, contact Microsoft support immediately for a full refund. After 7 days, the annual commitment is binding.
Gemini Advanced (Google One AI Premium)
Cancellation path: one.google.com → Settings → Manage membership → Cancel
Refund policy: Google One provides prorated refunds when cancellation occurs within 15 days of first purchase or renewal. This is one of the more generous policies among AI services. Cancellations after 15 days provide access through the period end without refund.
Important note: Subscriptions purchased through Google Play (mobile) follow a separate refund flow at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.
Midjourney
Cancellation path: midjourney.com/account → Manage subscription → Cancel
Refund policy: Midjourney offers refunds if fewer than 25 images have been generated in the current billing period. This is an unusually specific threshold — if you've generated 24 images, you qualify; at 25, you do not. Check your usage before requesting.
General recommendations
Before canceling any AI subscription, export any data you want to retain. Most services allow data export (conversation history, generated content, custom configurations) but may restrict access after cancellation takes effect.
Set calendar reminders 3 days before renewal dates for subscriptions you're evaluating. Most services do not send pre-renewal notifications, and the auto-renewal charge is the point at which refund eligibility begins to narrow.
For business subscriptions with annual commitments, review the contract terms before signing. The per-month pricing displayed during signup often obscures the annual commitment and early termination restrictions.
